Foldsquare May–August 2026: Spanish and French, sale badges & faster downloads

It has been a busy few months since the April update. Foldsquare now speaks Spanish and French, the listing designer picked up sale badges and discount pricing, BigCommerce joined Shopify as an embedded app, and downloads got faster again. Here’s what landed between May and August. New to Foldsquare? Start with why we rebuilt Catalog Maker from scratch.

New features

Foldsquare in Spanish and French

The whole app is now translated, not just the marketing pages — editor, settings, dialogs and error messages. If you use Foldsquare embedded in Shopify, it picks up your store’s locale automatically, so there is nothing to switch on.

Sale and out-of-stock badges

The listing designer has a new badge block. Mark a product as on sale or out of stock and the badge renders on the page, styled alongside the rest of your catalog rather than pasted on top of it.

Discount pricing fields

Three new pricing fields: percentage off, amount off, and the discounted price shown next to the original. Useful for a sale catalog where the saving is the thing you want a buyer to see.

Photo layout presets

A new panel for choosing how product photos sit on the page, including a thumbnails-only preset. You can also hide the main photo now, the same way thumbnails could already be hidden — with a guard so you cannot accidentally end up with neither.

Compression when you publish

Publishing now offers an opt-in compression step with a format picker. Worth using when file size matters more than absolute fidelity — emailing a catalogue to a buyer, for instance, rather than sending it to a printer.

Start without connecting a store

The product picker now has add, import and sample-data options. You can build and try a catalogue before connecting a platform, which is useful if you are evaluating Foldsquare or working from a spreadsheet rather than a storefront.

BigCommerce as an embedded app

Foldsquare now runs inside the BigCommerce control panel, with proper install, uninstall and user-removal handling — the same experience Shopify merchants already had.

Edited fields are marked

When you change a product field away from the value in your store, the editor now marks it as overridden. At a glance you can see what you have customized and what is still syncing from the platform.

Billing portal

Billing now runs through the Stripe billing portal — update a card, download invoices and manage the subscription in one place instead of contacting support.

Improvements

Faster downloads, again

April’s rendering work continued. Pages are now cached individually and pre-warmed as you edit, so by the time you hit download much of the work is already done. Uploaded images and backgrounds are downscaled to sized variants rather than rendered at full resolution, and the renderer has more room to work on large jobs. Big catalogues benefit most.

Plan limits flagged earlier

The catalogue wizard now warns as soon as your selection goes past your plan’s product limit, rather than letting you build the whole thing and find out at publish.

Editor access levels

Viewers and non-owners can no longer edit a catalogue that has been shared with them.

Smaller touches

A Clear button on the border preview. Removing a whole category from the organiser dropdown in one action. A details fields panel in the listing designer. An intro video on the catalogue list for new accounts. Individually minor, collectively less friction.

Fixes

  • Unpublishing a catalogue now properly hides it from its public URL.
  • Password reset emails send reliably.
  • File uploads work on mobile Safari.
  • The auto-sync toggle saves its setting.
  • MSRP fields resolve correctly in layouts.
  • Barcodes load over HTTPS.
  • Flipbooks retry if the PDF does not load first time.
  • Popovers no longer clip at the edge of the screen.
  • Shopify sessions recover properly when the embedded app reloads.

What’s next

We’re working on how products with a lot of parts display. A catalogue for automotive, construction or industrial supply is a different problem from a lookbook — one product line can run to hundreds of part numbers, each with its own specification, fitment and price, and all of it has to stay dense enough to fit on the page and clear enough for someone to order from without ringing you to check. Alongside that, automatic short descriptions: the copy on your online store is written for a web page with room to breathe, and a catalogue cell does not have it. Rather than retyping every description or letting it truncate mid-sentence, Foldsquare will condense the long version into one that fits the space and still reads properly.
